Overview

Learn basic physiology of the cardiovascular and respiratory systems and an understanding of common illnesses. Understand Western Medical approaches and contraindications as well as the yogic perspective – psychology and lifestyle approaches to integrate into developing a plan of care using Kundalini Yoga Therapy.

In This Course You Will Learn:

  • Anatomy and basic physiology of the cardiovascular and respiratory systems as they relate to healthy cardiovascular and respiratory system functioning and cardiovascular and respiratory disease.
    • Basic understanding of common cardiovascular illnesses and Western Medicine approaches to the following conditions:
    • Coronary Artery Disease (Arteriosclerosis)
    • Hypertension (High Blood Pressure)
    • Myocardial Infarction (Heart Attack)
    • Strokes/Cerebral Vascular Accident
  • Basic understanding of respiratory illness and Western approaches to the following conditions:
    • Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, (COPD)
    • Emphysema
    • Bronchitis (Chronic)
    • Asthma
  • Contraindications in working with clients with cardiovascular or respiratory illness 
  • Yogic and lifestyle approaches for recovery from cardiovascular or respiratory illness
  • Yogic psychology of cardiovascular disease and respiratory illness
  • How to develop an individual plan of care and the use of a group approach based in Kundalini Yoga technology to address cardiovascular and respiratory disease 
  • Yogic lifestyle and the yogic psychology of pre- and post-operative care.
  • How to develop an individual plan of care and the use of a group approach based in Kundalini Yoga technology to address pre- and post-operative care.
  • The role and scope of practice of the yoga therapist in the context of a team of healthcare providers and family members, supporting people with cardiovascular and respiratory disease and perioperative care. 

Class Format

In order to receive a certificate of completion, participation for the full duration of the course, including class discussions and breakout rooms and completion of homework are required. When on Zoom, camera will be on unless agreed upon with faculty.
