Overview

This course explores human development from psychological and physiological perspectives, covering stages of growth, personality formation, and the yogic view of life cycles. It addresses male and female psychology in health recovery and self-care, and examines common health challenges, including menstrual disorders, menopausal health, sexual dysfunction, and male menopause, with a focus on Western medicine’s approaches. The course also looks at aging-related challenges such as cognitive impairment, mobility issues, and muscle and bone health, as well as urinary tract conditions like bladder dysfunction and kidney disease, highlighting medical treatments including dialysis and transplants.

In This Course You Will Learn:

  • The models of human development, including stages, lifecycles as they relate to personality formation and functioning
  • The yogic perspective of human development and life cycles
  • Male and female psychology as it relates to the process of health recovery and self-care 
  • Common women’s health challenges and Western Medicine approaches to the following conditions:  
    • Menstrual abnormalities (amenorrhea-lack of menses, menorrhagia-heavy menses, dysmenorrhea-painful menses; endometriosis)
    • Premenstrual syndrome
    • Menopausal health
    • Pelvic pain, dyspareunia (painful intercourse) and sexual dysfunction in women
  • Common men’s health challenges and Western Medicine approaches to the following conditions:
    • “Male menopause”
    • Sexual dysfunction in men
    • Common prostate conditions
  • Challenges related to aging including the following:
    • Cognitive impairment
    • Physical mobility: strength, flexibility and balance
    • Muscle mass and bone density
  • Urinary tract challenges and Western Medicine approaches to the following: 
    • Bladder dysfunction (overactive, difficult voiding, incontinence)
    • Reversible kidney disease (such as post-toxin, or post-infective)
    • Chronic kidney disease, End Stage renal disease, dialysis, and transplant
    • Chronic frequent bladder infections 
    • Kidney stones

Class Format

The online session is [insert #] hours. Please allow for [insert #] hours of required independent work outside of online class per day. In order to receive a certificate of completion, participation for the full duration of the course, including class discussions and breakout rooms and completion of homework are required. When on Zoom, camera will be on unless agreed upon with faculty.
