Functional Yoga Therapy for the Structural System
Immersed in the therapeutic power of yoga, you will be led through the structural forms of the moving body and become aware of the common imbalances that can lead to injuries and pain. Yoga Teachers from all traditions will benefit from this fundamental workshop that puts anatomy in motion. We explore key muscles and joint movements through asana and experiential exercises. We address common injuries and ailments of the musculoskeletal system — including low back and sacroiliac joint, hip, knee, foot, shoulder, wrist and neck.
In This Course You Will Learn to:
- Understand various contributors to musculoskeletal ailment, injuries and pain such as the manner of breathing and postural and movement habits
- Identify the different roles of muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and cartilage in musculoskeletal discomforts
- Understand the therapeutic application of asana for recovery from structural ailments, injuries and pain.
- Assess students structurally to create treatment protocols and a yoga program to help bring the body into balance and recovery.
Approved for 45.0 Advanced Professional Development hours through IAYT, 45.0 Continuing Education Units for Yoga Alliance, and 54 contact hours for nurses as required by the California Board of Registered Nurses, Provider# CEP 13960.
Attendance for full duration and completion of homework are required to obtain a certificate of completion.

The online session is 4.5 hours. Please allow for 3.5-4 hours of required independent work outside of online class per day. In order to receive a certificate of completion, participation for full duration of the course, including class discussions and breakout rooms and completion of homework are required. When on Zoom, camera will be on unless necessary and agreed upon with faculty.

For participants to feel fully prepared for this training, we request that you study the book Key Muscles of Yoga Your Guide to Functional Anatomy in Yoga 3RD EDITION [PB,2009] by Ray Long, MD. Knowing and understanding this material will help you do well in the course.

This course is part of the International Kundalini Yoga Therapy Professional Training.
Unraveling The Knot includes Kundalini Yoga methods but all yoga teachers and yoga therapists from any tradition will benefit from the content.
